Why Melrose?

Frederick Melrose Cary was my father’s name but everyone knew him as Fred. My Dad was a renaissance man who would try anything. He loved doing woodworking, masonry, stained glass, boating, and fishing, ceramics, wallpapering, painting, plumbing, electric, dancing, cooking, gardening and wasn’t afraid of tryin anything new.

Whenever I admired someone else’s project or artwork he would always say, “You have two hands and a brain just like anyone else and if they can do it, so can you!” My dad always encouraged me to try anything and everything. The Gold Standard he set for me was to compete only with myself and to always try to improve on my last ‘BEST’. When I was asked to endorse and help develop a new line of sewing accessories, I was given the privilege of choosing the name...for me, the most logical and obvious choice was my father’s middle name, Melrose. Not only does it honor his memory but represents all that he accomplished and passed on to me. It stands for embracing change, learning every day and not keeping score.
