Darlene Cahill Biography

Darlene was raised in Salem, New Hampshire by a carpenter dad and a seamstress mom. At age 10 she joined her mom in the factories on summer vacation and by age twelve, she was trading baby-sitting time for Ballroom dance lessons. At 14, her entrepreneurial spirit led her to sewing custom jockey caps and race horse blankets for Rockingham racetrack. She spun cotton candy at a local amusement park and was a candy-striper in Pediatrics at the local hospital. This energetic wonder woman spent the first part of her life singing and dancing in musical theater as well as performing double duty back stage as a costumer.

After attending U.S.I.U. performing arts University in San Diego, she moved to the Tampa Bay area where she moonlighted delivering Singing Telegrams and teaching ballroom dance at Fred Astaire Dance Studios while performing in dozens of musicals all over Central Florida. This domestic Diva met her husband of 21 years, George Cahill (The All-New Captain Kangaroo’s new Mr. Greenjeans) in an acting workshop.

Together Darlene and her husband George conceived, produced, promoted and starred in their own traveling Musical Magical Variety Act called “Invisible, Inc.” At the age of three, their son George lV put himself into the show. Their popular act was a 1940’s style song and dance review with magic, juggling, fire-eating and illusions that performed everywhere from the high rolling casinos of Las Vegas to the gently rolling decks of Cruise Ships like the QE2 as well as being a featured act on the popular TNT show, The Statler Brothers.

You may have seen Darlene on CBS’s prime time domestic diva reality show, “Wickedly Perfect”. She’s listed Second in the “Top 10 Ladies of Reality TV” and won the popular vote of America for her work on the show. (http://moms.vocis.com/archives/2005/10/top_10_ladies_o.html)

She has worked professionally in the entertainment industry as an actor, spokesperson, singer, producer, dancer, costume designer & choreographer for her entire adult life. From Dixieland jazz bands to murder mysteries, Mary Kay Sales Director to National Touring Vaudeville Shows, this powerhouse is a hands-on, find-a-solution, do-it-or-die-trying kind of woman.

Darlene is an accomplished interior decorator, award winning costume designer and avid gardener. As an author she has written articles for Sewing Savvy as well as a monthly blog and projects for HSN.COM and the highly successful “Sewing From Square One”. She is currently launching an entirely new line of sewing accessories under the name of Melrose, a tribute to her late father who taught her that “You’ve got a brain and two hands and can do anything anyone else can!”

When she can squeeze in a rehearsal, Darlene loves to sing with her acapella trio called “Colors of Grace”. She also organizes ladies quilting Saturdays to make baby blankets for the local pregnancy center. She dabbles in woodworking, wood turning, stained glass, and continues to teach Ballroom dancing at dinner parties with crazy friends!

Darlene has experienced her fair share of variety and seizes the God given gift of each day with gusto!
